Welcome back! Today I'll talk about yet another manga where characters fight! As cliche as fighting manga can seem, it's pretty impressive to find original ones nowadays. Most ideas have been taken already and coming up with new ones can seem like quite the challenge; and yet Record of Ragnarok was one of those mangas that surprised me.
Record of Ragnarok is a seinen that was scripted by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui and drawn by Ajichika. It was prepublished in the Monthly Comic Zenon in November 2017 and then got published into volumes by Coamix.
This manga starts by showing us that every millennial, gods meet up for a reunion where they decide if they live or die, Zeus is the one to control every god (Since he's the god of gods.) This year it's the god's last straw tho and they all decide to kill humans. But a certain valkyrie by the name of Brunehilde comes up and asks for a trial, this trial is a right that humans have and it's called the Record of Ragnarok. It says that to determine the fate of humanity, 13 gods and 13 humans will fight, whoever wins picks what happens next..

The synopsis is short yet interesting enough in my opinion, how can humans fight back against gods? Who will win? Those questions are what made me start this manga yet now I barely care about them. The questions I ask myself every time are "who will win ?" and "What will this god look like ?" Due to how much care is put into every design and every backstory of the characters. A massive compliment I have with this manga is the chara-designs and how they give the characters' backstories
For example here are two characters that fought: Jack the Ripper VS Hercules.
So in conclusion, if you want a manga that makes your heart pound as characters fight with all their might, Record of Ragnarok is made for you! (Please don't watch the anime that doesn't have the same quality as the manga sadly...)
The characters alone give a tone of how the fight will go: Jack the Ripper, a twisted serial killer, the embodiment of evil, he's malicious and uses sinister techniques to take down his opponent while Hercules is the total opposite; the definition of justice, fighting head-on with no fear in mind. I took this fight as an example since most humans used in this manga are from Asian origins, making it a bit hard for us to know them, but it's always a pleasure to read about them!
Finally, I'll touch on the art style that's amazing! The fights in this manga are the definition of intense, I've never felt that while reading a manga. The thrill of finding out who will win the fight as the intensity grows more and more, leaving you on the edge of your seat while beautiful panels of powerful techniques and attacks are just shown to you, it's a blessing really!
