Kengan Ashura : Tokita the "Ashura"
Welcome back ! This week's post will be centered around a manga I finally finished reading not too long ago, I wanted to make a post on it one week ago but since I wasn't done with it and wanted to give the best review I could, I thought I'd finish it first. So today, we'll talk about Kengan Ashura !
Kengan Ashura is a shonen manga that was scripted by Yabako Sandrovich and drawn by Daromeon. It was first prepublished in the magazine "Ura Sunday" between April 2012 to April 2018 before getting published by the editor Shogakukan in 27 volumes.
So, compared to the manga on the last post, this one has ended ! (Not really since there's a sequel that's still being published but let's not talk about that)
You may ask yourself "But what is this all about ?" Well, it's a pretty simple story !
In this world, CEO's of Japan have an underground fighting tournament called "Kengan Ashura fights" they're basically the best way for them to come up with a deal for something. For exemple if two CEO are interested in a Skyscraper, they'll do a Kengan Ashura fight to decide who gets to get it. The fights are pretty simple, the CEO's each take one fighter that will represent them and they fight until the other is KO. That's when we're presented to Tokita Ohma, a young fighter that gets enrolled into those matches and wants to become the strongest fighter. I'll stop there because I don't want to spoil too much about this manga since I love it so much- I want people to experience it without knowing too much about it because it makes it that much better !
Here is Tokita Ohma, the main character of this amazing story !

I'll be honest, I don't even know where to start with my compliments for this manga, it was one of the best discovery I made in a while and i'm glad I read it.
First of all, let's talk about character design, what I mean by that is how the characters are drawn, their physical traits, the clothes they wear and what it tells us about them, this is pretty important since a design of a character can make you fall in love with them or even hate them in an instant, for exemple let's take Imai Cosmo :
He's young and clearly has a sort of purity to him ,he looks young, has big eyes with a big smile that makes you feel almost uneasy about him getting into a fight. Yet his strong build reassures the fact that he's not a newbie and knows what he's doing. Even tho he gets serious during fights, he's still has a childish side but as the story goes, he slowly drops it and becomes way more serious, he understands that fighting is dangerous. So whenever you see him in trouble, you start to feel bad, and yet he always comes on top. I won't continue since this isn't really important to most people but I thought i'd bring it up !
Next up, I need to talk about the fighting panels because...WOW. I think they might be the best part of this manga along with the characters, the intensity, the roughness, the strength that's shown through every punch. Everytime I read through those fights scene, I was on the edge of my seat, sometimes even cheering on for my favorite character to win/ And when they did win i'd smile widely and keep on reading. Even in public, I couldn't help myself but smile ! Here are some exemples of fighting panels :
And, I think that's pretty much it ! I can't do much more than hope you go on and read it by yourself after seeing the art and a small sypnosis ! He's the type of manga that you're sad to end (Especially due to how depressing the ending is) and just wish you had more of it ! But good things always come to an end. Just like this post ! I'll end it with the last panel of the manga, so it matches the end of my postI just love how much style was put into that punch. You can tell it's a win or death situation where this punch will change the entire fight, a punch that turns the main character into a sort of monster of pure strength !
As for this one, the intensity of the guy in front of him is so strong that he seems like a giant compared to him, proving just how powerful he might be. Truly a work of art (in my opinion)
